Edwin Richard Foden
Edwin Richard Foden (1870–1950)
1870 Born on 28 March 1870 at Bradwall Green, Cheshire, the elder son of Edwin Foden and his wife, Sophia Scragg (1841–1893).
He joined his father's business Foden with his brother William
1891 Living with his parents at Bradwell and described as an engine maker. [1]
Edwin Foden married in 1896 Elizabeth Alice Devonport, and they had three children; Elizabeth died in 1912, and in 1929 Edwin married Mary Cooke, with whom he had a further child.
1900/1 Fodens produced their first steam lorry
1911 Edwin Richard Foden 44, engineer, works manager Fodens Ltd, livedin Sandbach, with Alice Foden 36, Florence Foden 14, Dorothy Foden 13, Dinnis Foden 12[2]
1932 Edwin retired from Fodens
Later he returned to the development of a diesel lorry on his own account. With the help of his son Dennis, and several key figures dismissed by Fodens, Edwin went onto establish a rival concern, which became ERF
1950 Died in Sandbach; his widow, Mary, was granted probate[3]
