Eglinton Chemical Co

A subsidiary of John and James White, major suppliers of chromium compounds.
The company also had a chemical works at Eglinton, near Irvine, Ayrshire (of which the Glasgow business was presumably an offshoot).
1873 The Eglinton works began to manufacture bichromates
By about 1880 the Eglinton plant also included a Leblanc alkali plant.
The Eglinton company acquired rights to exploit a patent of 1878 by Christian Heinzerling using chromates and alum for the tanning of leather.
A chrome tannery was established in Firhill Road specifically to demonstrate the process to potential customers.
1890 Became part of United Alkali Co.
1914 Company closed.
