c.1845 Incorporated by William Baird and Co to manage and operate their new iron works at Eglinton, and later the extensive mineral leases at ironworks at Blair, Muirkirk, Lugar, and Portland.

1860s Messrs Bennie and Co erected retorts and stills for making "once-run oil" at Killwining, Ayrshire, for the iron firm of Baird, of Gartsherrie, and the Eglinton Iron Company[1]
