1641 The Stag Brewery near Victoria originally belonged to the Greene family from 1641 to 1787
1787 The brewery was then run by Moore, Elliot and Co
1837 The Watney family became involved in brewing when James and Daniel Watney, millers of Wandsworth, took a quarter share in the Stag Brewery.[1]
1843 the Watney family became involved.
From about 1849 the brewing firm was known as Elliot, Watney and Co.
1850 Elliot and Co., brewers, were in Pimlico[2]
1858 The firm became known as James Watney and Co
1866 John Lettsom Elliot left the partnership with James Watney, James Watney the younger, and Norman Watney, trading under the style or firm of Elliot, Watney, and Co., at the Stag Brewery, Pimlico in the county of Middlesex, as Brewers; the business would be carried on by James Watney, James Watney the younger, and Norman Watney, under the style or firm of Watney and Co[3]
1869 Herbert Watney left the Partnership with James Watney, James Watney the younger, and Norman Watney carrying on business as Brewers, at the Stag Brewery, Pimlico, in the county of Middlesex, under the style or firm of Watney and Co.[4]. Herbert became a medical student.[5]
1885 Became a limited company; Cosmo Orme Bonsor became a director
1889 Watney and Co took over the Mortlake Brewery owned by Phillips More and Co.
1890 Watney and Co took over J. C. Wood and Co of Artillery Brewery, Victoria Street
1898 Merged with other London breweries to form Watney, Combe, Reid and Co
