1836 Sale Notice: 'ALL that Extensive and Commodious CAST IRON FOUNDRY, with the premises belonging thereto, situate near Elvet Bridge, in the city of Durham, the same are now in the occupation of Messrs. Carter and Hall, Iron-founders.
This properly comprises a large, lofty, and substantial RANGE OF BUILDINGS, in good repair, recently constructed in a proper manner for the Works of a Foundry. In the interior are two Cupolas, Cranes, a Stove, and other suitable Apparatus; and adjoining thereto an ENGINE HOUSE, with Engine of four horses power, Boiler, &c., and excellent SMITHS' SHOPS, used for fitting apartments, with the Fire Hearths, Benches, Lathes, &c..... 1844 Elvet Bridge Foundry to be sold '(Pursuant to an Order the High Court of Chancery, made two several Causes of "George v. Tiplady" and "George v. Tiplady," with approbation of Sir Giffin Wilson, Knight, one of the Masters the said Court)'.[2]
1856 Charlton and Suthers, Iron Founders 'have opened the Iron Foundry situate near Elvet Bridge, Durham, for many years carried on by the late Mr Chisman, where the above business in all its branches will be followed, and all orders carefully and punctually attended to. Colliery Owners, Engine Builders, and others, supplied with Castings, light and heavy, of every description.'[3]
