1840 Death Notice: 'On the 14th inst, aged 78 years, Mr. Emanuel Brooke, millwright, of Chorlton, late of Lever-street in this town. It is remarkable that the two oldest master millwrights in Manchester, viz., Mr. Joseph Young and Mr. E. Brooke, should be buried within a few days of each other.'[2]
1845 Advertisement: 'To Machine Makers and others requiring Commodious Premises.—Eligible Investment.—Valuable Freehold Land, Messuages, and Buildings, in Lever-street, Manchester.
By Mr. WILLIAM HAMER, at the Crown and Anchor Inn. Port-street, Manchester, on Tuesday, August 19th, 1845, at six o'clock in the evening, subject to such conditions of sale as will be then and there produced, unless previously disposed of private contract; by order of the surviving trustee of the will of the late Emanuel Brooke, deceased.
The Fee Simple and Inheritance of and in all that PLOT of LAND, containing 800 superficial square yards and 3-9ths of square yard, or thereabouts, having a frontage to Lever-street, Friday-street, and Bradley-street respectively, in Manchester ; and also all those Two Messuages or Dwelling Houses erected thereon, fronting to Lever-street, one of which is in the occupation of Messrs. Faulkner Brothers, and the other is at present untenanted. And also all those Erections or Buildings standing on the land, situated behind the said two messuages or dwelling houses, lately used as an engine and millwright manufactory, with the engine house, boiler house, and land thereto belonging, and the Rooms or Workshops also standing on the said land. The above plot of land is subject only to the small chief rent of £13 6s. 9d. The situation is very central, and about an equal distance from each of the principal railways, and the property is exceedingly well adapted for warehousing or other purposes requiring commodious premises.
