Emerson Muschamp Bainbridge (c1817-1892) of Bainbridge and Co

1892 Died. ' It is our painful duty to record the death of Mr Emerson Muschamp Bainbridge, founder, and for many years head of the firm of Messrs Bainbridge and Company, Market Street, Newcastle. The news will not altogether surprise his many friends, for it was well known that Mr Bainbridge had latterly been in a critical condition, and this, taken with his advanced age of 75 years, in a measure prepared the public for his death. The sad event took place at Eshott Hall, Felton, Northumberland, on Sunday. A native of Weardale, he served his time with Mr Robert Kidd in an establishment on the old-fashioned Side in Newcastle, and with this city, except for an absence of two years in London, he was closely identified throughout his business career. The business in Market Street was commenced in 1841, and it has been greatly due to Mr Bainbridge's constitutional vigour and ability to withstand severe and protracted labour that the business has become so firmly established and so widely respected. The other members of the firm are his sons, Messrs. T. H. Bainbridge, G. B. Bainbridge, and A. E. Bainbridge, though upon the two first-named the weight of its conduct mainly rested...'[1]
