The death has occurred of a well-known member of the Birmingham Exchange in the person of Mr. Enoch Wilkes, of Newick, Streetly, Sutton Coldfield, chairman of Wilkes, Ltd., nut and bolt manufacturers, of the Grand Junction Works, Darlaston. Mr. Wilkes, who was aged sixty, took over the old-established firm of Messrs. Simpson in 1890, and, with the assistance of his uncle, Mr. Thomas Wilkes, had built up a flourishing business. It was converted into a limited liability company in 1897. Mr. Wilkes was a native of Darlaston, his father and grandfather having been in the nut and bolt business at the Britannia Works, established in 1832.
