Ernest George Soanes was born in 1887 and was successively leading mechanic and workshop foreman with Caffyn's Garage, Eastborne, from 1909 to 1914, when he left to take up the position of Works Manager with Wilson's Motor Works, Hull.

From 1909 to 1919 he was an Examiner with the Aeronautical Inspection Department, and from 1919 until his death he was Works Manager to the Norman Engineering Co, Leamington.

He was elected a Graduate of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1909, an Associate Member in 1915, and a Member in 1922.

He died on 24th August, 1921, from tuberculosis.
