"M. Ernest Gerrard.—M. Ernest Gerrard, a young French engineer of considerable promise, has been killed by an accident in a gallery of the Puits Ste. Marie, in the arrondissement of Alais, at a depth of 270 metres. His funeral was attended by all the engineers and mineowners of the neighbourhood, where he was much respected."
