Etchells, Congdon and Muir:1935 Review

From Graces Guide

Visit of the Iron and Steel Institute to the Iron, Steel and Engineering Industries of Manchester and District

Etchells, Congdon and Muir Ltd., have been located in the Ancoats district since 1900 and have succeeded in keeping to the front of British lift makers. The electric lift, direct coupled and operated by automatic means, is in general use in public buildings, offices, warehouses and works. The various classes of lifts, from the most elaborate to the simplest, are completely made at the works of the firm and have the tide "E.C.M." to distinguish them from other makes. The variety of control and safety appliances in modern electric lift practice is too great to be enumerated here.

Modern buildings of advanced design such as the Manchester Central Library, Radcliffe Science Library, Cambridge, and the Geological Museum, Kensington, S.W., have all adopted the "E.C.M." lift and in spite of the depression in the engineering trade, now happily lifting, the firm has been consistently busy during the years since the war and at the present time have orders in hand that will occupy them for several months ahead.
