Situated in Magdalen Road, Exeter

1808 Extablished

1811 'The medical report of the West of England Eye Infirmary at Exeter, announces a cure, in the two last years, of 1,195 persons. Of these, 86 have been cured of cataracts for whom thirty were born blind.'[1]

1871 Matron is Anne M. Collins. Four family and staff. 23 patients listed.[2]

1881 Matron is Anne Collins. 23 patients listed.[3]

1891 Matron is Georgina Kinnearmont. 36 patients listed. Also a nurse and five servants.[4]

1899 Foundation stone laid. Architect was Alfred Brumwell Thomas. Builder was Stephens and Son.

1901 Georgina Kinnearmont is Matron. Seven staff. 38 patient listed.[5]

1901 Re-built. Designed by Alfred Brumwell Thomas

WWI Used as Exeter Temporary War Hospital No 1.

1992 Closed and facility moved to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital

Used by Exeter University

2001 Converted into the Hotel Barcelona

Became a hotel under various names.
