Frank Arthur Lowry Barnwell (1877-1945)

Crosbie Dawson, Chief Engineer of N.S. Railway in 1895. Appointed Resident Engineer of new Railway from Leek to Waterhouses, 1901, remained as Maintenance Engineer of same and other districts. In addition in 1907 took over the entire management of the Cauldon Lowe Limestone Quarries belonging to the Company. Recalled to Stoke-on-Trent in 1912 as Chief Assistant in the Permanent Way Department; appointed Assistant Engineer in April, 1914, and succeeded the late G. J. Crosbie Dawson as Chief Engineer, July, 1914; appointed General Manager, October, 1919, still retaining position of Consulting Engineer. Chief Works: Leek to Waterhouses Railway, Cauldon Lowe Branch: new stone crushers, gas plant and air compressors, Cauldon Quarries; new water scheme, Cauldon and district.
