Factories Direction Ltd, of Pine End Works, Harbour Road, Lydney, Gloucestershire.
Plywood manufacturer.
1940 Company incorporated with the aim of establishing and operating a Government-run Shadow Factory to manufacture plywood for the aircraft industry.(Other government sites in the Forest of Dean were at Cinderford and Coleford).
WWII Manufactured the plywood used in making the Mosquito aircraft as well as plywood for other aircraft (including the Horsa and Hamilcar gliders) and marine uses.
Post-WWII The works were producing 40 percent of all the plywood made in Britain; after the end of hostilities, production was redirected to plywood for housing, railway carriages, cars, shipbuilding, flooring and furniture. Started making veneers. Developed Hydroboard for use in the nuclear industry as shielding.
1976 became Mallinson-Denny (Lydney) Ltd.
c.1990 Pine End Works closed.
