c.1885 Sebastian Ferranti sold some of his revolutionary mercury-motor electricity meters to Sir Coutts Lindsay and Co which helped establish him in the new industry for electricity technology.

1897 After the move to Hollinwood, two major businesses were set up, one for production of meters, and the other for steam alternators.

1905 After the reorganisation of the Ferranti company, its focus was put on Switch Gear, Transformers and Instruments, areas where the Ferranti name was recognised a leader in the field.

1914 Ferranti was listed as a specialist in meters and switchgear

1961 Ferranti acquired the electricity meter business of Aron Electricity Meter Co

by 1978 there was a company called Ferranti Measurements Ltd in Oldham making electricity meters
