Foden: MA 5131

'Around the second world war time the engine was used at Crewe hall clearing the grounds of timber. Henry Richard Hepden, who served his apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer at Fodens, also owned steam lorries and delivered logs to Leek with the steam lorries.
The engine was driven from Crewe to Foxt in the moorlands. This journey wasn't with out pitfalls as when negotiating Stoke Station Railway Bridge, the engines funnel got wedged under the bridge and the top part was sawn-off.
The picture is taken clearing timber at Black Bank Farm, Foxt. The man on the left is Henry Richard Hepden and the man on the right worked for him.
The engine number looks like MA 5181 in the picture, but it says MA 5131 in the engine register.'
