Forges et Aciéries de Firminy - the Steel Company of Firminy

Founded in 1855 by Félix-François Verdié. Ten years later, Verdié began a collaboration with the Martin brothers.[1]

1889 Lengthy description of the company and its products, including those shown at the Paris Exhibition.[2]. See illustration. Note the projectile, weighing 1800 lb, suspended by a piece of steel wire 2.7 mm. diameter. The ultimate tensile strength of the wire was 135 tons per square inch.
