Foxdenton Lane Lift Bridge, Middleton Junction

From Graces Guide

Lift Bridge over Rochdale Canal in Foxdenton Lane, Middleton Junction, Chadderton, Greater Manchester

See here and here[1] for photos of the steel-framed lift bridge, shortly before it was replaced by a fixed concrete beam bridge. That bridge has in turn been replaced by a hydraulically-operated lifting bridge. Photo here.

The 1934 O.S. 25" map shows a 'swing bridge' taking Foxdenton Lane/Grimshaw Lane across the canal close to Middleton Junction Station. The bridge was overshadowed by Grimshaw Mill, Junction Mill, Chadderton, and Swan Mill, Chadderton. A short distance further north were Firwood Mill, Baytree Mill, and Laurel Mill.
