1863 Born in Birmingham[1] son of Patrick Martin

Educated at St Mary's College, Dundalk

Presumably worked for his brother's company, Martin and Co, as contractors in India.

1886 Managing engineer on the Bombay waterworks in India

1891 Managing engineer for the Allahabad waterworks

1892 Managing engineer for the Lucknow waterworks and Cawnpor waterworks

1897-1905 Chief engineer to the Amir of Afghanistan, working on facilities to manufacture guns.

1899 Succeeded Thomas Salter Pyne as engineer-in-chief in Afghanistan.

1905 Joined I Mech E; civil and mechanical engineer, Messrs Singh and Sons, Punjab[2]

1905 Accompanied the Prince Nasrullah Kahn on his return to Kabul
