Born the son of Henry Critchley

1861 Residing at Atcombe Road, Woodchester: Henry Critchley (age 41 born Stroud), Pin Manufacturer. With his wife Ellen, five daughters and sons Frances E. Critchley (age 13), Uriah G. Critchley (age 7) and Douglas C. Critchley (age 4).[1]

1913 Died. 'We regret to record the death of Mr. Francis Edward Critchley, which occurred at his residence Bourneville, Brimscombe, near Stroud, daring the early hours of Sunday morning....Mr. Critchley was born at Woodchester, near Stroud, and was the son the late Mr. Henry Critchley who was a partner in the firm of Messrs. Perkins, Critchley and Marmont, pin manufacturers. In his early days the deceased left his native place and was for some time with Messrs. Brown, Marshall and Co., railway carriage and wagon builders, an old Birmingham firm. But at the death of his father he returned to the Stroud district, and with his brother, the late Mr. U. G. Critchley, he established the pin manufacturing concern at the Wimberley Mills and Dark Mills, Brimscombe, which has grown be a very large business, employing several hundred hands. Mr. U. G. Critchley died in 1895, and the business passed into the hands of Mr. F. C. Critchley, who joined by a son and a nephew. The deceased was twice married, his second wife dying only short time ago. He leaves two sons— Mr. C. S. Critchley, partner in the Brimscombe business, and Mr. H. S. Critchley, chartered accountant at Oxford, and one daughter (Mrs. Vickerman of Huddersfield)...'[2]
