FRANK BUCKLEY was connected with H.E.H. the Nizam's Guaranteed State Railways Company, Ltd., India, for nearly twenty-three years. He joined in 1906 as superintendent of the workshops of the engineering department. During 1908 he was engaged on the reconstruction of bridges damaged by floods which occurred earlier in that year. In 1909 his designation was altered to assistant engineer and in this position he retained control of the workshops until 1920. He was responsible for the manufacture and maintenance of all signalling and interlocking plant, the manufacture of points and crossings, and the general repair work of the engineering department.
From 1920 until his retirement in 1929 he was manager of the locomotive and carriage workshops, and was responsible for carrying out the conversion of the machinery from mechanical to electric drive, and for extensive remodelling of the works.
Mr. Buckley, who was born in 1876 at Adlington, Lancs, served his apprenticeship from 1891 to 1896 in the Horwich works of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. He then took charge of the tool room at a motor manufacturing company's works at Coventry, returning to Horwich three years later as foreman of the fitting and turning shops. He left for India in 1904 and became assistant engineer at the Bulrive Engineering Works, Madras, and was so engaged until he joined the Nizam's Guaranteed State Railways, at Secunderabad.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1908 and was transferred to Membership in 1918. During his retirement he lived at East Horsley, Surrey, where his death occurred on 22nd September 1936.
