FRANK DUVAL DAY served his apprenticeship from 1894 to 1900 at the Reliance Iron Works, London, and remained with the firm as a fitter and turner for a further two years. From 1902 until 1910 he was employed by the Port of London Authority on plant installation and maintenance and during this period attended the West Ham Technical Institute.
In 1912 he went to West Africa and acted as mechanical engineer to two gold mining concerns until 1917, when he returned to this country. After holding short appointments as examiner in a royal aircraft factory and as head of the inspection and progress departments of two engineering firms he received an appointment from Messrs. Borax Consolidated, Ltd., as chief mechanical engineer at their Sultan Tchair mines, Turkey, where he was responsible for all boring and building operations. He held this position for five years and subsequently went to Canada, where he was engaged as a mechanical engineer in various engineering works and mines. Latterly he had been in the employment of the Canadian Allis-Chalmers Company, Ltd., at Montreal.
Mr. Day, whose death occurred on 7th June 1943 in his sixty-fourth year, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1913 and was transferred to Membership in 1923.
