FRANK GRATTIDGE HODGES was born at Derby on 12th October 1859.

In 1876 he commenced a pupilage in the locomotive works of the Midland Railway at Derby, and at its termination in 1880 he entered the drawing office and did outside work in connection with engine running.

Three years later he became assistant locomotive foreman at the Kentish Town works, and was promoted to be locomotive foreman in charge of Lancaster in 1885, subsequently being transferred to Brecon, where he remained until 1890, when he entered the carriage and wagon department at Derby.

In 1902 he retired through ill-health.

His death took place at Birmingham on 31st December 1908, at the age of forty- nine.

He became a Member of this Institution in 1891.
