"FRANK HENRY SYKES was associated throughout his professional career with the firm of G. Fletcher and Company, Ltd., Masson Works, Derby, for no less than fifty-nine years. He received his general education at Bury Grammar School and his technical training at the Derby School of Science.
In 1885 he began a six-year pupilage in the shops and drawing office of the Masson Works and on its completion was made leading draughtsman. He was promoted to be chief draughtsman two years later, and in 1909 was appointed drawing office manager and technical chief. He was in charge of the erection of two large sugar factories for the Queensland Government and was responsible for the design of the whole of the equipment. He also paid visits to Brazil and Java on behalf of his firm. Mr. Sykes had been a Member of the Institution since 1915. His death occurred on 11th April 1951 at the age of eighty-one."
