Frank Samuel

Frank Samuel (1889–1954), gramophone manufacturer and industrialist

1889 January 19th. Born at 20 Marlborough Place, London, the youngest of three children of Nelson Samuel and his wife, Harriett Hymans. His father was head of Barnett Samuel and Sons

Educated at Clifton College and in Lausanne and Berlin.

Patented the first portable gramophone which they called the Decca Dulcephone.

1920 Frank Samuel became head of the company.

1916 December 20th. Married Esther Marie, daughter of A. D. Benjamin. No children.

1928 Converted Barrett Samuel to the Decca Gramophone Co, worth over £100,000. At this juncture, Samuel sold his shares and severed his links with the business.

1954 February 25th. Died suddenly at his home, 25 Harley House, Regent's Park, Marylebone, London. He was survived by his wife.
