FRED BARRON POPPLEWELL, whose death in his seventy-first year occurred on 21st May 1952, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1915.
His practical training was obtained with the architect and surveyor to Morley borough council and with the West Yorkshire Iron and Coal Company, after which he found employment for five years with the Fitzwilliam Heaysworth Colliery Company.
In 1911 he took up an appointment as secretary and manager to E. W. Jackson and Son, Ltd., Doncaster, motor engineers, and four years later became joint managing director. This association lasted for twenty-four years when Mr. Popplewell went into practice on his own account as a consultant, assessor, and valuer in York.
