FREDERICK JAMES LAUNCHBURY was born on the 5th September, 1884, and died on the 27th March, 1919.
He was educated at Edgbaston School, Birmingham, and after serving a four years' apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer he was appointed assistant on the testing staff of Messrs. Chamberlain and Hookham.
A year later he obtained an appointment as shift engineer in the Scottish House-to-House Electricity Company, Ltd., and subsequently became substation superintendent in charge of one rotary and several static substations.
In November 1906 he entered the service of the Coatbridge and Airdrie Electric Supply Company, Ltd., as chief assistant and mains superintendent.
In 1909 he became Resident Engineer to the Company and was responsible for the engineering side of the Company's business.
He resigned in April 1918 on obtaining an appointment with the Greaves Etchells Company of Sheffield.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution, in 1910 and a Member in 1916.
