Frederick John Bloomer (1868-1924) of the Mond Nickel Co
1924 Obituary [1]
FREDERICK JOHN BLOOMER, an original member of the Institute, whose death occurred on December 21, 1923, was born in 1868 at Walsall and educated there at Queen Mary's School, afterwards receiving his scientific education at University College, Aberystwyth.
In July 1888 he went to Brinn's Oxygen Company, Westminster, as a chemist.
In December 1892 he started, in what became his life's work, at Dr. Ludwig Mond's London Laboratory; and as assistant to Dr. Carl Langer both in London and Birmingham, where the initial experiments were carried out for the extraction of nickel by the "carbonyl" method.
In 1901, when the Mond Nickel Co.'s refining works were opened in Clydach, Swansea, he was appointed Works Manager, which appointment he held at his death, having literally died "in harness."
