Anthony Clapham was a Quaker soap maker, brewer, and pharmacist in Newcastle

1829 Clapham leased land at Friars Goose

1831 He began soda manufacture at Friars Goose

1833 Built a 263-foot chimney, which became a local landmark

1850 Clapham's lease expired; the concern was bought by Burdis and Harrison

1852 Acquired by Gray and Crow.

1858 the factory was bought at auction by J. Williamson of the Jarrow Chemical Co. for £14,050.

1891 The works were taken over as part of the Jarrow Chemical Co. by the United Alkali Co.

1914 United Alkali closed the works
