George Arthur Burls (1866-1939)

George Arthur Burls was born in 1866 and was educated privately. He succeeded in obtaining a Whitworth Exhibition and was also a Green's Medallist in geometry.

His apprenticeship was served with Maudslay, Sons and Field, at Chatham, Lambeth, and Pembroke, and he was then appointed as Assistant to Prof. W. C. Unwin at Central Technical College.

He then joined the staff of Thornycroft Steam Wagon Co, as Chief Draughtsman, and was subsequently appointed Manager.

For the remainder of his life he practised as a Consulting Engineer.

He died on 25th April, 1939, aged 72.

He was elected a Member in 1911 and served on the Council from that year until 1917.
