1999 Company closed. 'A LONG-STANDING company in a village has gone into receivership with the loss of 50 jobs G. C. Smith Coachworks in Ashby Road Long Whatton which employed 51 people had experienced difficulty over the past few years due to changes in the market The majority of the workforce has been made redundant over the past two weeks but a skeleton staff is keeping the business running so it can be sold as a going concern But if the receivers Saville’s cannot find a buyer for the business which was started in the 1930s then the remaining staff will also have to be made redundant'[2]
