George Douglas Simpson (c1915-1997) of Napcolour

1997 Died. 'George Douglas Simpson, Tattenhall, who died at home on September 12 aged 82. Mr Simpson was a retired company director. He was the widower of Marjorie Elizabeth ’Betty’ Simpson nee Cooke. Mr Simpson was born in the City of Chester. He finished his schooling at Chester City High School and in 1932 joined The Chronicle as a reporter. In 1939 he joined the RAF and trained as an engineer working on Spitfires. He was posted to Algiers, North Africa in 1942 until the war ended. He was finally demobbed in December 1945 the year he married. In 1946 he was the founder what was become the UK’s largest independent wholesale photofinishers. The business was started as a front small shop in Frodsham and was called Chester Photographies. It grew and became known as Napcolour with a head office based in Chester. The company was eventually taken over in 1976 by Charterhouse Group. His wife died on May 27 and they leave a son Peter'[1]
