1900 'George Elston and William John Watson, locomotive owners, of Welby, were summoned for an infringement of Locomotive Act, l898, at Londonthorpe and Welby, on March 21st. The offence was that they ran a traction engine from Londonhorpe to Welby without having the proper number men in charge. Fined £1. and costs.'[2]
1911 Living at Welby, Grantham: George Edwin Elston (age 52 born Welby), Thrashing Machine Owner and Worker. With his wife Sarah Jane Elston (age 32 born Martin Moor, Lincs) and their two daughters Gladys Elston (age 9 born Welby) and Phyllis Elston (age 4 born Welby).[3]
