"GEORGE FREDERICK ALEXANDER NORMAN, who was born in 1877, had considerable experience as an electrical engineer. He received his general education at St. Paul's School, London, and his technical training at Faraday House. On the completion of a five-year apprenticeship with Mr. E. Houghton-Brown of Dalston in 1896 and a similar period as a student at Harrogate, he became a general assistant to Mr. George Wilkinson, and from 1899 to 1902 acted as mains superintendent. Subsequently he went to South Africa and joined the General Electric Power Co at Germiston in the Transvaal. He was next in the service of the Natal Government Railways for some years and later was with Hubert Davies and Company, Ltd., at Durban. Returning to England in 1909 he held in succession positions with Tredegars, Ltd., and Minter and Company, Ltd. Finally, in 1939, he became managing director of the Berkeley Electrical Engineering Company, Ltd., London. Mr. Norman was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1903 and was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. His death occurred on 19th August 1951."
