George Hope Johnstone (1841-1909) of G. H. Johnstone and Co
1841 Born in Frederick Place, Handsworth (now demolished and replaced by Thornhill Road) the son of Francis Johnstone.
He began his business career with the old established firm of Hammond, Turner and Sons, button manufacturers.
1860 He entered the jewellery trade and was successful.
1899 Married(2) at St. Geo. Han. Sq. to Catherine Maas
1901 Living at Hawshead Hill, Headingley: George Hope Johnstone (age 60 born Handsworth), Goldsmith. With his wife Catherine and two sons; George Harry Johnstone (age 33 born Handsworth), Goldsmith; and Stanley Johnstone (age 28 born Handsworth), Goldsmith, and a step-daughter.[1]
