1967 GKN acquired Kent Alloys as part of its acquisition of Birfield Industries; Kent Alloys became part of GKN Castings

1974 Was the world’s largest alloy wheel maker; announced it would manufacture the new safety wheel developed by Avon Rubber of Melksham[1]

1979 Won Queen's Award for Export for its alloy wheels supplied to the motor industry[2]

1996 Won a £9 million order to supply wheels to car giants Ford and Chrysler in the United States. The deal would keep its order books full for the next three years[3]
