Established early in the nineteenth century by Duncan Dunbar.
The partnership went through various successions:

- Dunbar and Co
- Gellatly, Hankey, Sewell and Co
- Gellatly, Hankey & Co.
Subsequently part of Esperenza International Service which then became part of Transcontinental Services Group, of the Netherlands Antilles, trade services division (1982).
1983 Transcontinental's trade services division was acquired by Inchcape [1]
