Mr George A. V. Russell (Fellow), a former General Manager of the Cleveland Works of Dorman Long and Co. Ltd, died recently aged 71.
Mr Russell was apprenticed to the Railway Workshops, Swindon. During the 1914-18 war he served in the Royal Engineers and after demobilisation joined John Brown's in Sheffield as Assistant Works Manager, later spending some time with Davy Brothers Ltd, Sheffield, where he was concerned with rolling mill design and construction.
He joined Dorman Long as General Manager, in 1945 and retired in 1954, though for a number of years afterwards he was used in a consultative capacity.
A Member of the Institution since 1938, Mr Russell was also a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
His friends and colleagues will remember his delightful natural courtesy and the honesty and sincerity which he brought to all aspects of his life.
