1947 Obituary [1]
"GEORGE ALLEN LEE was born at Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1881, and spent the whole of his engineering career in that country. After serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. Cossens and Black, engineers, of Dunedin, until 1902, he entered the office of Mr. C. L. Watt, consulting engineer, and at the same time attended classes at the Otago School of Art and the University School of Mines. From 1903 to 1906 he acted as assistant to Mr. J. Blair Mason, engineer to the Otago Harbour Board. He was then appointed assistant engineer to that authority, and subsequently was employed for some years in the same capacity by the Bluff and Napier Harbour Boards. In 1918 he entered into partnership with Mr. Mason, with whom he was associated for fourteen years. On the dissolution of the partnership, following Mr. Mason's retirement in 1932, Mr. Lee became a partner in the firm of Messrs. Mandeno, Lee, and Brown, consulting engineers, of Auckland, and continued to practise until his death, which occurred on 13th July 1945. He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1913."
