GEORGE ATTWOOD, born at Carlisle on the 16th February, 1845, died at Steyning Manor, Somerset, on the 9th February, 1912.

Trained under his father, the late Mr. Melville Attwood, he was subsequently engaged in the inspection of mines, and in survey and railway work on the American continent.

From 1885 until his death he practised in London as a Consulting Engineer and carried out mining and other work in all parts of the world. He was a Justice of the Peace for British Columbia and the author of numerous scientific publications.

Mr. Attwood was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 5th February, 1878, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 4th April, 1905.
