George Bertram (of Springfield Mill)
of Springfield Mill, at Polton, Midlothian, on the River Esk
Two of his sons, George and William, were apprenticed to John Hall of Dartford
1821 On their return to Edinburgh, George and William Bertram founded the St Catherine's Works at Sciennes, dedicated to manufacture of paper-making machinery.
1845 George's younger son, James, opened a second wire-working factory in Leith Walk
