George Blaxland
George Blaxland junior (1833-1912)
1833 Son of George Blaxland, Senior born at St. Albans on December 20th, 1833, and was educated at Greenwich Naval School. He served his apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer with Mr. John Penn, of Greenwich.

c.1868 Went into partnership with Mr. Wylie, setting up business as marine salvage engineers as Wylie and Blaxland.

GEORGE BLAXLAND, born at St. Albans on the 20th December, 1833, died at Gillingham, Kent, on the 8th August, 1912.
Apprenticed to Messrs. Penn, of Greenwich, he was later entrusted by them with the supervision of several important contracts. For 7 years he held charge, under the Spanish Government, of the Arsenal at Havana, Cuba, during and after the American Civil War; and subsequently he went into business as a salvage contractor, among his other notable achievements being the raising by compressed air of the floating dock at St. Thomas, West Indies, and the mail-steamer "Colombia."
Mr. Blaxland was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 7th December, 1869.
