George Bomford
George Bomford (1780–1848) was an officer in the United States Army and an inventor and designer of weapons and defensive installations. He served as the second Chief of Ordnance for the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps.
He was born on Long Island, New York during the American Revolutionary War, the son of a British officer, Thomas Bomford of the 60th Royal Artillery, and his wife.
An interesting example of Bomford's work was the determination of pressure distribution along the length of a cannon barrel. His work influenced John A. Dahlgren.[1]
