GEORGE DAY BUCKWORTH HERNE SOAME (formerly G. D. Harrison, which name he changed to Soame by royal license in 1906) was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne and obtained his engineering training in that city with Morrison and Co and J. F. Tone.
In 1872 he was appointed Engineer and Manager of the Staffordshire Potteries Waterworks Co, a position which he retained for 40 years, until his death on the 20th December, 1912. He carried out various extensions and improvements of the undertaking under his charge, and was also consulted in connection with water-supply schemes of neighbouring authorities.
Mr. Soame was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 6th April, 1875, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 20th January, 1903.
