GEORGE ELFORD DEWHIRST, who was only 34 years of age at the time of his death on 12th December 1927, had been works manager of his father's firm, Messrs. C. H. Dewhirst of Keighley, since 1919, and was engaged on the manufacture of machine-tools, bearings and presses.

He was educated at Keighley Technical School and served his apprenticeship with his father.

During the War he was foreman in charge of turning and machining in connexion with the manufacture of shells.

He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1923.
