With his wife Lavinia Scholes (age 26 born Adlington, Lancs) and their son Neville Scholes (age 4 months born Rock ferry).

Prof. G. E. Scholes, MBE, MSc (Fellow), died on 29th July at the age of 84.
A graduate of Manchester, he joined the staff of the Mechanical Engineering Dept at the University of Liverpool in 1906 and was appointed to the newly established Chair of Thermodynamics of Heat Engines at Liverpool in 1920 and, following the retirement of Prof. Watkinson in 1926, was appointed Harrison Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He retired from the University in 1946.
A Member of the Institution since 1923, Prof. Scholes took a keen interest in the activities of the North Western Branch and was Chairman from 1942-43.
He will be remembered by many as a good friend and a wise counsellor.
