1924 Obituary

"The death is announced of Mr. George Fowler, as having taken place at Brighton on Saturday. Mr. Fowler, who was seventy-four years of age, was, right up to the time of his death, an active director of Hick-Diesel Oil Engines, Ltd., of 70, Queen-street, London, E.C. 4, and was one of the pioneers of the Diesel engine in Great Britain, it being he who originally purchased the British and American Diesel engine patent lights and formed the original Diesel Engine Co in England. He was from those early days up to the time of his death actively connected with the Diesel engine, which he always considered to be the engine of the future. It was, we are given to understand, entirely owing to his influence that the firms of Sulzer Brothers, and Carels Freres first took up the manufacture of the Diesel engine. Mr. Fowler, in addition, was a pioneer of the drop valve steam engine in Great Britain."
