GEORGE HENRY PHILLOTT was educated at Charterhouse School, London, and Christ College, Oxford, whence he took his degree of M.A. in 1875.
During the following three years he served an apprenticeship in the office of the late Mr. J. Middleton, Architect, of Cheltenham. He also gained experience in general engineering work at a local works. Throughout his career he was engaged in the design and construction of public works, becoming in 1883 a partner in the firm of Middleton, Prothero and Phillott. These works included private drainage schemes and sanitary engineering for public Institutions. His firm also completed new waterworks for the Dorsetshire towns of Lyme Regis and Charmouth, and various architectural works, notably the chapel of Cheltenham College.
After severing his connexion with this firm, he was for a short time in partnership with Mr. Bruce George, his former pupil. He also held the position of Surveyor to the Cheltenham Rural District Council.
Mr. Phillott, who was born in 1853, became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1899, and died in September 1926.
