GEORGE RIDLEY BAYLEY was born in Camberwell, London, on 2nd October 1855, and when sixteen years of age became an articled pupil at the works of the Hydraulic Engineering Co., Ltd., at Chester.

He remained with this firm till 1878, when he took up an appointment with Messrs. Ellington and Woodall, Consulting Engineers of Westminster, which he held, except for a short time spent with Messrs. James Simpson and Co., of Grosvenor Road, London, until 1893.

In this year he was appointed Resident Engineer and Manager of the Liverpool Hydraulic Power Co., with whom he remained till his retirement in April 1919; since when, however, he continued his association with the Company until his death on 27th October 1922, aged sixty-seven years.

He became a Member of this Institution in 1899.
