Lt.-Colonel GEORGE ROLLO, C.M.G. D .S .0., at the time of his death, which occurred in his sixty-third year on 19th July 1944, was the managing director of Messrs. Grayson, Rollo and Clover Docks, Ltd., marine engineers, of Liverpool, and had been identified with that firm and its predecessor, Messrs. D. Rollo and Sons, for the whole of his professional career, including his apprenticeship from 1898 to 1903.
He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby and Rugby, and at Liverpool University where he took a two years' course in engineering. In 1903 he entered the estimating department of the firm as an assistant and later became assistant to the manager. During the war of 1914-18 he served overseas with distinction as second in command of the 17th Liverpool Regiment and later as lieutenant-colonel in command of the 19th battalion. Eventually he rose to be brigadier-general commanding the 150th Infantry Brigade.
For his services he was awarded the C.M.G. and the D.S.O. and bar. Colonel Rollo had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1907.
